Five directions in curtain and upholstery fabric this year.
1. Natural linens: Linen and linen-look weaves with a visible, uneven texture, in undyed and earthy shades.
2. Velvet: Velvet is back, in jewel tones and soft neutrals, for both upholstery and curtains.
3. Textured weaves: Chunky weaves, slub yarns and embossed patterns add texture, especially in plain or neutral rooms.
4. Easy-care fabrics: Fabrics with a stain-resistant or water-repellent finish are popular for busy homes. Ask what the finish is and how long it lasts, since a finish is not the same as a fabric that resists stains by nature.
5. Bold patterns: Large florals and geometric prints, used on one feature curtain or on cushions.
