Sustainable Sourcing: Quality Without Compromise
· VL Fabrics Editorial Team
Sustainability claims in fabric are easy to make and hard to check. If you want a more responsible choice, these questions help.
What is it made of? Natural fibres such as linen and cotton, and fabrics made partly from recycled yarn, are different things, and a blend may contain only a small share of either.
Is there paperwork? A claim such as organic, recycled or certified should come with a named standard and a certificate for that product.
Will it last? A fabric that keeps its colour and shape for many years, and can be cleaned rather than replaced, often has a smaller footprint than a cheaper one that is replaced sooner.
Ask at the showroom about a particular fabric, and ask for the paperwork before relying on any such claim.
